An urban mobility project for all

The T12 tram-train line connects Massy-Palaiseau and Evry-Courcouronnes, two significant economic centres in the south of Paris. This line significantly augments the connectivity of the region boosting the area’s economic, cultural, and urban vitality and creates a more appealing living environment. Furthermore, it fosters social cohesion by providing a viable alternative to car dependence.

Managing a complex project with significant challenges

The new transit system operates on a corridor that is shared by both rail lines and a highway, with bridges, aqueducts, and other rail structures along it. It combines 10 km of existing rail infrastructure with 10 km of new urban track.

The hybrid project, which combined rail and urban development, required the construction of dozens of new structures to facilitate road and highway access. To ensure seamless connectivity, Transamo orchestrated, arranged, oversaw, and spearheaded this remarkable feat. These tasks included constructing:

  • Three separate bridges spaced two kilometres apart.
  • Two railway bridges.
  • Three underpasses beneath the RER C tracks to create a cycle and pedestrian path that serves nearby neighbourhoods.
  • One elevated station which rises six metres above ground, above a departmental road.

A focus on landscaping and sustainability is incorporated. The T12 tram-train platform is predominantly covered in greenery, with more than 700 trees planted and extensive quality landscaping. The technical structures were built with a focus on minimizing their environmental impact. This includes using eco-friendly insulation materials, implementing rainwater collection systems, and promoting biodiversity through planting and design.

Transamo’s mandates

On behalf of Île-de-France Mobilités, Transamo's responsibilities were to:

  • Oversee the entire project (managing risks, technical work, costs, timelines, quality, safety, testing, commissioning, and procedures).
  • Stakeholder governance and coordination with all partners.
  • Ensuring environmental compliance and oversee of HQE certification for technical buildings.

Key takeaways

The T12 initiative showcases Transamo’s proficiency in managing intricate transportation infrastructure projects. With its expertise in project management, stakeholder collaboration, and mobility engineering, Transamo reaffirms its dedication to promoting sustainable mobility and driving regional change in France.
